The Fulton County assessors office plans to start mailing about 331,100 assessment notices on May 14, telling property owners their tax values and how much they can expect to pay. The notices start the clock on the 45-day appeal deadline.
The tentative start date was previously Saturday, but Chief Appraiser David Fitzgibbon said he wants to have plenty of time for quality checks. Last year saw a disastrous chain of events after the office sent overblown bill estimates to about 136,000 Atlanta property owners, attributed to a computer glitch and careless staff.
