From trees, Suwanee fashions amphitheater
By Shane Blatt
Jan 21, 2011Three members of Suwanee’s public works department have created an au naturale educational amphitheater out of oak and pine trees that were removed last year at White Street Park to make room for the city's community garden.
The amphitheater at the park off Buford Highway features four terraces with log-hewn seating for about 60 adults or 80 children. City workers spent several weeks creating the seats, podium, railings and steps from the felled trees -- an estimated 2 tons of lumber.
The educational amphitheater, an outdoor classroom of sorts, may be reserved and rented. For more information, contact Tammy Hiler at thiler@suwanee.com.
