French consulate awards 15 WWII veterans in Smyrna

Fifteen World War II veterans from the southeast region will receive the National Order of the Legion of Honor from the French consulate during a ceremony Wednesday in Smyrna.

The Legion of Honor is France’s highest honor and was founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. It recognizes eminent services to the French Republic.

The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 160, 160 Legion Drive SE in Smyrna.
