Forsyth County commissioners have set a public hearing on the county’s proposed 2018 operating budget.

The presentation’s set for the 5 p.m., Nov. 2 Board of Commissioners meeting at the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming. County staffers are proposing a nearly 8.5 percent increase in the total general fund budget for 2018, up from almost $118 million this year to roughly $127.9 million.

The budget plan rolls out some $1.73 million in proposed general fund capital expenditures for such things as computer, HVAC and vehicle replacement. Various new general fund budget items amount to some $5.3 million. Included in that is the setting aside of some $2.20 million for 5 percent merit/COLA salary increases for general county staff and around $208,000 for library staff.

The Board of Commissioners decided in July to keep millage levies that fund a major portion of the budget unchanged for 2018, at a total of 8.036 mills.

Adoption of the budget is tentatively set for Nov. 16.
