Forsyth County officials announced the opening of a “Braille Trail” at Fowler Park, a path of about 200 yards specially marked for visually impaired persons.

“This project began in early 2017 and was made possible by the Forsyth County Lions Club in partnership with Ms. Fedorchuk’s 4th grade class at Kelly Mill Elementary School,” said Jim Pryor, director of Parks & Recreation.

The trail, near the entrance to the Big Creek Greenway, has eight Braille signs, two sensory gardens and guide ropes to help people navigate the path. The signs have information about Forsyth County, Fowler Park, the Lions Club and the sensory gardens.

The gardens were installed by Kelly Mill students to provide sensory stimulation as well as a habitat for the endangered Monarch butterfly, officials said.

Fowler Park is at 4110 Carolene Way, Cumming.
