The Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Election Office is on its way to finding a new home — which officials said will greatly increase the department’s efficiency.
Commissioners approved an up-to $170,500 design and engineering contract with the Sizemore Group for a new facility. Right now, the department has administrative offices in the county administration building, with its warehouse several miles away on Piney Grove Road. With the warehouse holding voting machines, supplies and the department’s training room, constant running back and forth is necessary, said elections supervisor Barbara Luth.
Luth said a county-owned site on Sawnee Drive near the tax commissioners office is being looked at for relocation. She said the new offices will expand their space from about 12,000 to 15,000 feet.
County officials hope the building can be finished by October 2016, before the November election.
