A Forsyth County water treatment facility is in line for a major expansion. The Board of Commissioners recently voted 4-0 to award a nearly $64 million contract which will allow the Fowler Wastewater Reclamation Facility in south Forsyth to go from treating 2.5 million gallons of water a day to 5 million.

The county’s procurement director said a future second phase of the expansion will increase capacity to 7.5 million. She said the project will take 870 days to complete and the plant will stay open at full capacity during that time. The work will be done by Archer Western Construction of Tampa.

Water and sewer head Tim Perkins said the capacity expansion is being done with upcoming development in mind. He said projections show the plant will need to be expanded yet again about 2024.
