Forsyth County's fire chief has been named the state's best by his peers.

Danny D. Bowman was named the 2010 Georgia Fire Chief of the Year by the state association of fire chiefs at a weekend conference.

“The nomination was limited to 300 words, but 300 words is not enough to describe Chief Bowman’s worth to this county,” Forsyth commission chair Charles Laughinghouse said.

Bowman is credited without helping the department grow as the county's population continues to grow, county officials said.

In addition to being nominated by Forsyth County, Bowman was also nominated for the award by Sandy Springs Fire Chief Jack McElfish.

Bowman began his career with the Atlanta fire department in 1968. He joined the Forsyth fire department in 2001 and has served as chief since July 2003.
