If you know a Marietta High School student, tell them that the face above is one they should avoid if they’re going to cut classes.

That face belongs to Keith Ball, who was named the new MHS principal at the city’s school board meeting Tuesday.

Ball takes over from Gabe Carmona, who announced he was going to the take the top spot at North Paulding High School, said Marietta schools spokeswoman Tammy Garnes.

Marietta High hovers around 2,000 students. There about about 9,000 in the whole charter district.

Ball was previously at Etowah High, Cherokee High and Woodstock Middle schools.

He fits “perfectly” with Marietta City Schools, board chair Jason Waters said in a news release.

“Having a leader that has served as a successful classroom teacher, beloved middle school administrator, athletic coach and nationally award winning high school principal is a win for everyone in the system,” said Marietta superintendent Grant Rivera.

Ball starts July 1.

Also at the Tuesday meeting: The board announced that Michele Bealing-Sayles, currently the head of student services for Paulding, will become the assistant superintendent of special services in Marietta. She replaces Jody Drum, who is retiring.
