ROCKDALE COUNTY — A DeKalb firefighter was working when he heard a fire call for his own home in Rockdale County. By the time fire crews got to the house, it was heavily damaged.

Now the Rockdale County fire department is raising money for him and his family.

Kee Moss was also working as a fire medic in DeKalb County when he heard the call days before Christmas.

The Moss family showed Channel 2’s Liz Artz the damage to their home of 16 years.

Investigators think an electrical problem sparked the fire.

Moss said when he heard the fire call over his radio, he frantically tried to make contact with his 10-year-old daughter, who was home at the time with her older sister.

Moss showed Artz cellphone video of the flames ravaging his home on Woodbridge Drive.

The girls tried to throw water on the fire before deciding to escape.

Moss has been with DeKalb County Fire for 25 years and a paramedic in Rockdale County for 16 years.

Now the fire department is trying to raise funds for his family to get them back on their feet.

An account has been created to collect donations for the family.
