Customers and employees evacuated a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Norcross and called 911 to report a fire Sunday.

They detected flames in an exterior wall and landscape bed and used a portable extinguisher, Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

Crews were dispatched to the restaurant in the 1600 block of Indian Trail Road at 1:40 p.m., he said. They extinguished the fire, which caused moderate damage to the wall and sent thick smoke throughout the restaurant, he said.

The fire originated on the restaurant's exterior and appears accidental, he said. The cause is undetermined.

No injuries were reported.
