Black smoke rose over downtown Kennesaw Tuesday evening as firefighters battled a blaze at an auto body shop, but they quickly got it under control.

The Cobb County Fire Department was in a "defensive" mode around 7 p.m. but by 7:15 the fire was under control, department spokeswoman Denell Boyd told the AJC.

She also said there were no injuries in the fire that burned Mr. Auto Care.

The fire was burning at South Main and Summers streets in downtown Kennesaw. It attracted numerous onlookers and blocked traffic, said witness Sandra Covarrubias.

She watched -- and heard -- the fire from her father's restaurant, La Villita on Summers Street. She said she noted several explosions.

"You could hear the explosions from the cars that were in there," Covarrubias said. She said the fire started around 6 p.m.
