A large swath of a north Georgia flea market burned  about 1 a.m. Sunday, forcing the business, Pendergrass Flea Market in Jefferson, to close shop for at least a few days.

Fire Chief Bobby Gooch said that about 60 stores within the market were completely destroyed and that the metal roof over part of the structure collapsed. No one was injured.

It took about 25 firefighters to get the blaze under control,  Gooch said. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout Sunday, checking for hot spots, he said.

A notice on the flea market's website said that it hopes to be open for business next weekend. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
