An apartment building in Gwinnett County was destroyed by fire Thursday morning, the second time in less than a year the building has burned.
The fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. at the High Pointe Village complex on Chase Lane, off Dawson Boulevard south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found heavy smoke and flames on the left side of the multistory building, said Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Tommy Rutledge.
Authorities evacuated two occupied apartment buildings nearby, Rutledge said. Those buildings were not damaged, and no injuries were reported, he said.
Firefighters were hampered by low water pressure, but were able to tap into a hydrant just outside the complex and had the fire under control around 6:18, he said.
Rutledge said it is not yet known whether the fire started inside or outside the building, which suffered major damage in a fire late last year.
Fire units from DeKalb County assisted in the effort, Rutledge said.
