Fayette County Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr. resigned Monday in a hand-written note to Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Caldwell had served on the bench 15 years. In his three-sentence resignation letter to Perdue posted on the website atlantaunfiltered.com, Caldwell said he was resigning effective Friday, April 23.
As the explanation for his decision, he wrote: "I am 63 years old and want time to visit with my grandkids and maybe practice law."
