Fayette County Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr. resigned Monday in a hand-written note to Gov. Sonny Perdue.

Caldwell had served on the bench 15 years.  In his three-sentence resignation letter to Perdue posted on the website atlantaunfiltered.com,  Caldwell said he was resigning effective Friday, April 23.

As the explanation for his decision, he wrote:  "I am 63 years old and want time to visit with my grandkids and maybe practice law."
