Replacement of two 84-inch culvert pipes under Antebellum Way in Fayette County will get underway now that the Board of Commissioners has approved the funding.

The board voted 5-0 on May 24 to award Pine Valley Concrete Company’s bid of $446,903, which was the lowest of eight bids received. Both of the corrugated metal pipes have collapsed as the result of extensive flooding in December 2015; they will be replaced with 60 linear feet of triple concrete box culverts to bring the structure up to the current 25-year flood prevention standards.

Although funding had been allocated from Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenue, the county recently received $532,000 in federal and state hazard mitigation grants for the project.
