The Fayette County Board of Education is considering whether to renovate or replace J.C. Booth Middle School. At its Feb. 5 work session, the board heard about two options from Facilities Director Mike Satterfield.

The first would be an extensive expansion and renovation, including building a new gym, moving the cafeteria to the old gym and using the existing cafeteria as a fine arts wing, at a cost of about $12 million. Another option would be to demolish the existing building and put a new two-story facility where the football field is, and relocate the field to the original building site, for approximately $24 million.

Further discussion is pending.
