Fayette boy dies after being shot by brother
A 10-year-old Fayette County boy died Sunday after being shot by his older brother, the county coroner said.
The boy's 12-year-old brother allegedly shot him Saturday afternoon while the two were playing outside their Fayetteville home, said Lt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office said.
A helicopter flew the boy to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where he was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit Saturday night.
He died Sunday at the hospital, county coroner C.J. Mowell Jr. said.
The boy's death is still under investigation, Mowell said.
"We have not come to a consensus as to what the situation is," Mowell said Sunday evening.
The sheriff's department has identified the boy.
Investigators said the older boy was playing with his father's 9mm pistol. The father was inside the family's Edmondson Way home when the shooting occurred.
No charges have been filed.
