The father of Detroit Lions defensive tackle Andre Fluellen collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack Saturday during a charity basketball game in Cartersville.
The Rev. Charles Fluellen, 57, was director of the Bartow County Transit Department and pastor of Glory Harvester Church.
Charles Fluellen was participating in the “Pastors vs. Politicians” basketball game that pitted community ministers against local politicians in a fundraiser for the Excel Christian Academy athletic booster club, according to a story last week in the Cartersville Daily Tribune News.
The newspaper Monday reported that the minister complained of chest pains and lost consciousness during Saturday night’s game, and was later pronounced dead at Cartersville Medical Center.
Andre Fluellen just finished his fourth season with the Lions. He graduated from Cartersville High School in 2003 and played four years at Florida State University before being picked by the Lions in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft.
Funeral arrangments for Charles Fluellen will be announced by Mack Eppinger & Sons Funeral Home in Cartersville.
