A day after her only child was found dead in his Austell home, Kimberly McClendon was still in shock.

“I don’t believe that it’s happened,” she said Saturday evening.

Jeremy Dale McClendon, 28, grew up in the home on Millstone Court that he later bought from his mother. He played with his own 5-year-old daughter on the same street. Recently, he had replaced the siding on the home, that sits on a quiet cul-de-sac.

Now, police say the home was the site of his killing, but there is no information about his cause of death yet.

McClendon’s body was discovered in the home Friday morning by his daughter’s mother, who had apparently tried to reach him unsuccessfully. The little girl was found at the home, unharmed.

Police have not said how long McClendon may have been dead.

“His daughter was his whole life. his whole life,” said Kimberly McClendon, who said she spent Wednesday with her son. “He would never allow someone in that house that could do something like this.”

Austell police do not expect to release additional details about the investigation over the weekend. McClendon said she is hoping for more information on Monday.

Until then, the family is together and remembering the former football standout at South Cobb High School who also had a knack for fixing things.

“He was the man,” Kimberly McClendon said.
