At some point between check-in in Atlanta and arrival in Salt Lake City, a loved one's ashes were disturbed, a family member told Channel 2 Action News.
On Oct. 23 aboard a Delta flight, the family took 35-year-old Amber Bainter's cremated remains to where her husband was buried in Utah, the report said. But upon arrival, the ashes -- which had been sealed inside a plastic bag and placed in a sealed box in luggage -- had spilled in her mother's bag, sister Stephanie Warnick told Channel 2.
Warnick said the box had been pried open and there was a cut mark in the plastic bag.
A Transportation Safety Administration inspection notice was inside the luggage, but a representative told Channel 2 that surveillance footage of the bag inspection showed nothing amiss.
Delta is investigating.
