On Wednesday, grief stung the family of slain DeKalb County resident Angela McKoy.
“Today’s her birthday,” brother Robert Martin said. “Everybody is in total devastation.”
McKoy, a mother of two who was pressing on through bone cancer, would’ve been 47. Instead, loved ones in Cleveland, Ohio, are planning her funeral after, police said, a dispute with her ex-girlfriend’s current partner left her shot in the back.
It happened Saturday afternoon outside a home on Gresham Avenue, near East Atlanta.
A DeKalb police report said Mia Marshall, 49, admitted to shooting McKoy with a revolver. She was charged with murder. The fight was captured on a neighbor’s home security camera and is said to have escalated when McKoy threw a glass flower pot at Marshall and chased her with a stick.

The girlfriend told police McKoy had been trying to convince her to split with Marshall.
The victim’s family is trying to understand.
Martin said his nieces, 18 and 25, were “robbed of their mother.”
“They need their mother’s guidance through their life,” he said while taking a break from writing the obituary.
Speaking to a reporter, he went over highlights of his lost sister’s life:
She didn’t let cancer slow her down. She found solace in writing poetry. She doted on her granddaughter. She was “the life of the party.”
His voice broke as he recalled her and how he felt when word made it to Ohio she was gone.
“Could you imagine?”
