Police in Georgia and Alabama are looking for a man accused of cashing $7,000 worth of counterfeit checks at Wal-Mart stores in metro Atlanta.

The checks are fakes, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. But the account number on the checks is real and belongs to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, Baker said Monday.

Approximately 10 checks have been cashed at Wal-Marts in Woodstock, Cartersville, Kennesaw, Acworth, Cumming, Lawrenceville and Alpharetta, according to police.

Investigators hope pictures taken from Wal-Mart security cameras will help identify the man responsible. Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to contact the  Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at 205-464-8646.
