Labor Day might have been the unofficial end to summer, but it didn’t mark the end of summer roadwork, as several projects this weekend could lead to heavy traffic on some metro interstates.

The state Department of Transportation plans to shut down the four left lanes of I-75 northbound from Central Avenue to University Avenue between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday for repaving.

Several entrance and exit ramps in that stretch, including those to and from Cleveland Avenue, will also be closed.

In DeKalb County,  roadwork will shut down the two right lanes of I-285 in each direction between Buford Highway and Chamblee Tucker Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Also in DeKalb, motorists can expect delays on I-85 northbound, where the three left lanes between Shallowford and Chamblee Tucker roads will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

That roadwork will continue northbound on I-85 in Gwinnett County to Old Peachtree Road, with to left lanes blocked. On the southbound side, the two left lanes will be blocked from Old Peachtree Road to Chamblee Tucker Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

The road crews will find sunny, warm conditions throughout the weekend.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting sunny skies through Sunday, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-80s and lows in the 60s.

After last weekend’s overflowing calendar of downtown events, the lineup for this weekend is pretty slim, with Georgia State University taking on Old Dominion in football at noon Saturday at the Georgia Dome and Sesame Street Live all weekend at Philips Arena.

Major events outside the downtown area include the annual Yellow Daisy Festival running through Sunday at Stone Mountain Park and Saturday afternoon’s University of Georgia-South Carolina football game in Athens.
