Ethics Board to hear complaint against Avondale commission

Avondale Estates’ Ethics Board will hold a probable cause hearing 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza, the Ethic Board’s first hearing since March, 2009.

The meeting’s open to the public.

Local attorney Joe Mandarino has filed an ethics complaint against the Board of Mayor and Commissioners asking to void the December annexation of Stratford Green because the board was down one person (The complaint contends the BOMC shouldn’t conduct any business until a vacancy’s filled); delay the March 17 special election for mayor because Stratford Green residents shouldn’t be allowed to vote; force all city officials to resign.

The election was held last week with pro-annexation candidate Jonathan Elmore winning decisively. Only 67 Stratford residents or 3.47 percent of the area’s registered voters cast ballots (compared to 40.15 percent of registered voters in the Avondale precinct who came to the polls).
