Atlanta Police Chief George Turner appointed Elizabeth Espy as director of public affairs for the Atlanta Police Department. “I am honored to serve with such a progressive police department and a chief who values effective and transparent communication,” said Elizabeth Espy. “My vision is to transform our communications efforts so that citizens are well informed, so as to foster a sense of trust and engagement with the police.” Espy has been serving as the interim director and will be managing communications both internal and external, overseeing social media initiatives and responding to significant media issues.

“In the five years Ms. Espy has been with the Atlanta Police Department, she has proven that she is a leader,” said Turner. “Her commitment to the department and her ideas on improving our communications efforts are exactly what we need as we continue to engage our citizens and visitors.”

In addition to managing public affairs, Espy will supervise the open records unit. Under her leadership, the backlog of more than 4,000 requests has been reduced to 200. Espy spearheaded the launch of the Atlanta Police Mobile App and increased social media followers by more than 150 percent.
