Atlanta school board Chairman Khaatim Sherrer El blasted Mayor Kasim Reed in an open letter sent to friends late Friday night, accusing Reed of "bullying, berating and maligning anyone who gets in your way."

This is not the first time El has criticized Reed. El over the last year battled the mayor and lost; he plans to step down as soon as Monday from his school board leadership post under pressure by Reed and others.

However, the cause for his accusations this time is not related to the board but to the city's ongoing debate over employee pensions. Reed and City Council President Ceasar Mitchell have battled over how and when to cut pension costs, causing El to side with Mitchell and accuse Reed of attacking the council president to further a personal agenda.

Reed, meanwhile, has backed a proposal from another city council member.
