Duluth Chief of Police R.D. Belcher has proposed a change to the city’s ordinance code to clean up sections related to pawn shops. Specifically, the amendment would require pawn shops to report transactions through an electronic automated reporting system. The electronic system will transmit all transactions to the police department and would eliminate staff from having to enter transactions manually into the tracking system.

There are currently two pawn shops within Duluth city limits. Electronic entry of pawn shop transactions allows for identifying and tracing lost, stolen, and sought-after property more efficiently.

The Duluth city council will place this item on the March 14 council agenda for consideration.
