Drier weather forecast through Friday

Metro Atlanta will get a break from the strong afternoon thunderstorms of the past few days, but the chance of rain will increase again by the weekend.

WSB-TV meteorologist Karen Minton said there's only a 20 percent chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday.

The risk of rain increases to 30 percent on Friday, and a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast for Saturday.

Highs will be in the low to mid-90s through Friday, cooling a little to the upper 80s on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Tuesday afternoon's severe thunderstorms took their toll across metro Atlanta.

A 16-year-old Cobb County girl was killed, and another injured when they were struck by lightning.

And thunderstorms delayed arrivals at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport by as much as 90 minutes, while Georgia Power reported power outages impacting some 5,700 customers.

The number of homes without power had been cut to under 100 by early Wednesday.
