Douglasville man shot, pulled from burning car
A man shot and pulled from a burning car remains in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital Tuesday night, Douglasville police said.
Police have not identified the man and are trying to piece together the details as to why he was shot in a Douglasville subdivision in the middle of the day.
“It’s very strange – the time of day – school was out,” Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack told WSB Radio. “We had several people in the area, lots of foot traffic in the area. It’s not secluded at all.”
Womack told WSB Radio that the man, who is in his 20s, was found in a burning car by the clubhouse at the Arbor Station subdivision.
Witnesses told police they heard what sounded like a “clap,” and then they saw the car engulfed in flames. Additional witnesses told police they heard what sounded like heavy car acceleration.
“After the victim was shot, his foot was on the accelerator, and the heat and energy caused the fire, which might be more plausible,” Womack told WSB Radio.
Someone pulled the man from the fire, and he was taken to the hospital.
Investigators have the man’s cell phone and are reviewing the phone records, Womack told WSB radio.
“Hopefully he will pull through this and give us more information,” Womack said.
They are not releasing his name pending notifying his family, which Womack said live in the area.
Witnesses told police they saw two men running from the area. Womack said investigators have not zeroed in on a motive, in fact, “we’ve changed directions on this a few times.”
