A rookie Doraville police officer has been suspended after allegedly driving drunk and getting into an accident over the weekend, Channel 2 Action News reports.

“This is going to be the easiest DUI arrest you’ll ever have,” Officer Kasey Lindsey said as he was being booked into DeKalb County Jail, according to a DeKalb police report of the Saturday morning incident.

Lindsey, 29, was driving east on Memorial Drive just east of Rockbridge Road about 7:45 a.m. when his 2007 Dodge Charger ran into the rear of a 2010 Toyota Corolla, police said.

Lindsey was not hurt, but the driver of the other car, a 69-year-old Fairburn woman, was taken to Emory Crawford Long Hospital after she complained of back and neck pain, police said.

When a DeKalb officer asked for Lindsey’s driver’s license and proof of insurance, Lindsey allegedly produced his police badge. He told police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, and an officer noticed an odor of alcohol, police said.

Lindsey admitted he had been drinking at Shooter Alley, a Doraville club. The officer had trouble keeping his balance during a field sobriety test and was placed in custody, according to the police report.

At the jail, Lindsey submitted to a breath test and posted a blood-alcohol level of .151, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence, following too closely and driving with a suspended registration and no proof of valid insurance.

Lindsey joined the Doraville Police Department in January. He has been suspended with pay pending an internal investigation.

When contacted by Channel 2, Lindsey and Doraville Police Chief John F. King declined to speak about the incident – Lindsey, because he said he was not allowed to, and King, because of the continuing investigation.
