Dogwood Festival revises 10th Street closure plans

April 9, 2010

Atlanta Dogwood Festival organizers have changed plans to close a key portion of 10th Street for next week's event.

One westbound lane on 10th Street will be closed between Charles Allen and Monroe drives, city officials said. Organizers previously wanted to prohibit vehicles on 10th Street between Charles Allen and Monroe drives, except for access to Grady High School, and close two westbound lanes on 10th Street between Charles Allen Drive and Myrtle Avenue.

Organizers initially wanted to hold some events on 10th Street, but executive director Brian Hill said all Dogwood activities will now take place inside Piedmont Park.

The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is in its 74th year and expected to draw about 85,000 people. It is scheduled to begin Friday, April 16 and end Sunday, April 18.
