2 die after separate crashes in Gwinnett
Authorities suspect that driving under the influence and driving too fast were factors in separate weekend car crashes involving fatalities in Gwinnett County.
Mario Villa-Anguerro, 43, of 1305 Morgans Landing, Atlanta, died after a crash in Doraville, according to Detective J.R. Flanagan of the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Villa-Anguerro was riding in a 2006 Toyota Corolla that turned left into oncoming traffic from Buford Highway to Global Forum Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. The Toyota was struck by another vehicle.
Villa-Anguerro was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he subsequently died.
The Toyota's driver, Luis Chauca-Morales, allegedly fled from the accident scene and was captured a short time later by a Gwinnett K-9 unit. He was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, hit and run and DUI, Flanagan said.
In the other accident, a 47-year-old Auburn woman was killed shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday when she was thrown from the 2002 Ford Explorer she was driving on southbound I-85 near Duluth Highway.
Jennifer Cakora, of 194 Carl Cedar Hill Road, lost control of the SUV and struck a media wall, Flanagan said. She too was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she died of her injuries. Speed was believed a factor in the single-vehicle crash.
