Two developers are seeking Gwinnett County’s permission to scale back a proposed commercial development and add more apartments on property surrounding Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.
Developers Brand Morgan and Marty Orr – owners of two tracts totaling 73 acres at the stadium – are seeking changes in zoning conditions that would decrease the commercial portion of the development from 351,000 square feet to 186,000 square feet and increase the number of residential units from 610 to 886. They say the economy has hindered development of the original plan for the stadium property.
Area residents object to changes and want the developers to stick with the original upscale development plan. They plan to take their case to the county planning commission next Wednesday.
