DeKalb County’s Snapfinger Creek wastewater facility recently earned a statewide safety award.

The plant earned top honors from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals for its safety program and record.

The honor is a bright spot for DeKalb’s sewer system, which is under a federal Environment Protection Agency mandate for improvements after reporting more than 800 raw sewage spills in five years. The county is expanding Snapfinger as part of its sewer overhaul.
