A Sept. 11 monument created in part with a beam from the World Trade Center will be unveiled during a memorial of the attacks at DeKalb Public Safety headquarters in Tucker on Sunday.

Firefighters and other volunteers drove to New York to retrieve the beam, a key part of the 2,200-square foot monument featuring a sculpted eagle wing coming out of the ground steel beam set in front of it.

The sculpture will be delivered from the Burgess building on Camp Road and Memorial Drive to headquarters, 1950 W. Exchange Place, by caravan at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

The ceremony also will include 11 seconds of silence, a 21-gun salute and reflections from CEO Burrell Ellis and public safety officials.

Donations are still being accepted for the monument, which cost about $20,000. More information or to donate: dekalb911memorial@gmail.com or www.dekalb911memorial.wordpress.com.
