DeKalb's third and final superintendent candidate, Arthur Culver, has withdrawn from consideration for the district's top job and resigned as school chief in Champaign, Ill.
Culver will step down as superintendent of Champaign Unit School District No. 4 effective June 30. According to a press release issued by the district, he wants "to pursue other opportunities and wants the district to be able to begin searching for a new leader immediately."
Those opportunities do not include the superintendent position in DeKalb. DeKalb school board chairman Tom Bowen confirmed that Culver bowed out of consideration Tuesday. The district's two other public finalists, Gloria Davis, of Decatur (Ill.) Public Schools and Lillie Cox, of Hickory (N.C.) Public Schools have also withdrawn.
