DeKalb County is donating used turnout gear from its fire department, such as boots and helmets that can no longer be fixed, to a local charity for use.

Gear for the Brave was started by a DeKalb fire captain from Ecuador who sends the equipment to fire squads in his native country, where firefighters have limited access to such items. There is no cost to the county to make the donations.
