DeKalb County Superior Court Clerk Linda Carter has resigned because of illness.
A spokeswoman for the governor said Carter submitted a letter of resignation to the governor on Friday, but the letter would not be available until next week.
Chief Deputy Clerk Debra DeBerry was sworn in Friday afternoon as acting clerk. She will serve until the term expires in Dec. 31, 2012.
Carter served as clerk for 10 years. She did not return phone calls Friday.
