A DeKalb County police sergeant who was being investigated for allegedly interfering with a rape case resigned Friday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Sgt. Eric Adkison, a 13-year veteran with the DeKalb Police Department, had been placed on restrictive duty because of allegations he persuaded the victim of a rape not to press charges, according to DeKalb police.

“It was just time … to go,” Adkison told Channel 2 on Friday, declining to comment further.

The DeKalb District Attorney’s Office and Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, the state’s police licensing organization, have been investigating the police sergeant.

The investigation stems from an alleged rape Dec. 16, 2011 at a home in the 5700 block of Shadow Creek Drive in Lithonia. The incident was not reported to police until Feb. 8. The victim in the case has contended Adkison and the suspect knew each other through a motorcycle club.
