Decatur’s commission recently approved adding bike lanes in both direction on Commerce Drive between Clairemont Avenue and West Trinity Place.

Trammell Crow Residential, developers of the Alexan apartment complex on Commerce, will install the lanes from Commerce to Ponce de Leon Avenue, while the city’s responsible for lanes from Ponce to Trinity.

When finished near year’s end, Commerce will be reduced to two automobile lanes, one in each direction, and a center turn lane at certain intersections. Total coast is $165,000, with the city paying $69,000 of that.

This is unrelated to the long-planned Clairemont-Commerce-Church Pedestrian Safety and Bicycle Lane Improvements project, which probably won’t get started until next year.
