Data storage for Lawrenceville police body cameras will cost $75K

The Lawrenceville City Council voted recently to approve the use of federal asset forfeiture funds to purchase data storage for video footage collected by police body-worn cameras.
The $75,400 purchase from Dell Computers includes two PowerEdge R430 servers with two Serial Attached SCSIs appliances for storage. This backup solution will allow for a redundancy of video data and a quick rebuild if a computer drive fails.
This system will create video storage of up to 336 terabytes. Lawrenceville police have determined that on average, officers will utilize about 10-12 terabytes per year. Based on state guidelines, Lawrenceville has determined they will need to retain video footage for seven years.
