The city of Cumming will hold a public hearing on its proposed 2018 budget 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at Cumming City Hall, 100 Main Street.

The total general fund budget covering city operatioThe council is then set to vote on the document during its regular meeting Dec. 19.ns would rise from the current roughly $13.8 million to $14.2 million. While the city’s capital improvements fund would show a steep drop from around $804,000 to $440,000, other categories would post an increase. Funding for administrative operations would rise from $1.17 to $1.26 million, police operations would jump from $2.19 million to $2.31 million, funding for parks and recreation would rise from $1.83 million to $2.02 million (covering new programs) and municipal court operational expenses would rise from $380,000 to $444,000. City Clerk Jeff Honea says the budget includes a 4 percent raise for city employees.

The budget also separately projects an increase in water and sewer expenditures from the current $19.5 million to $20.5 million.
