A federal court hearing will be held Monday morning to consider an Alpharetta High School student's request to be reinstated as student body president after he was ousted by administrators.

The student, Reuben Lack, said in a federal lawsuit that he was elected president by classmates, but removed by administrators after he shared a plan to make  the prom queen and king competition more inclusive of gay students.

Lack filed a federal lawsuit against Alpharetta High principal Shannon Kersey and the faculty advisors for the student council, Michelle Werre and Emily Reiser. Lack claims his First Amendment rights were violated.

He was unavailable for comment Wednesday.

A  hearing Monday will consider Lack's request for a temporary restraining order, which would force administrators to reinstate him.

Fulton County Schools officials said they followed protocol and will be ready to share their side of the story with the judge.

"The district is looking forward to presenting its case in court so that the truth can be told so we can move past this and so all students can focus on finishing the school year,’’ said Samantha Evans, spokeswoman for Fulton Schools.

Suzann Jiles, a lawyer for Fulton County Schools, maintains that Lack was removed because he was not a good leader.
