Applications for farmers market due in April

Vendor applications for the Kennesaw Farmers Market are due by the end of this month. The Kennesaw Downtown Development Authority is accepting applications for the market, which will be open May 3 through Oct. 25, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will be in the Adams Park soccer field parking lot at 2753 Watts Drive. Chamber offers drug discount to members

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with Walgreens to offer a prescription drug discount for chamber members and their employees who lack prescription drug insurance.

Discounts are available on all FDA-approved medications with an average savings of 35 percent.

The discount cards are free and there is no cost to sign up as a Cobb Chamber member.

Library needs Facebook friends to get free books

The Gwinnett County Public Library is seeking Facebook fans to help it win more than 1,600 free “Dummies” books.

Publisher John Wiley & Sons has launched a national contest to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the “For Dummies” series. The public library with the most Facebook fans at midnight on April 30 will win the free books.

Shelter residents learn how to garden

Fulton County Cooperative Extension agents are teaching Atlanta Mission homeless shelter residents to grow their own vegetables in an urban garden in downtown Atlanta. In a workshop Monday, agents will show the men how to prepare soil, what to plant, when to plant and when to harvest.

Vegetables grown will be used for meals cooked in the Mission’s cafeteria.

Gardening will also serve as vocational training and therapy for the 500-plus men served at the facility each day. Johnny Edwards

Job Fair April 29 in College Park

Hundreds of jobs will be available April 29 at the 13th Congressional District Job Fair.

More than 100 of Georgia’s top companies are scheduled to attend the fair at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, said U.S. Rep. David Scott.

The fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The companies include Lockheed-Martin, Comcast Cable, Tyco International, FedEx, SunTrust Bank, IBM, the FBI, Atlanta Police Department and many others.

Good Friday, furlough

to close Henry offices

Henry County’s government offices, along with Juvenile Court and Probate Court, will be closed April 22 and 25 for a holiday and a furlough day. Superior Court will be closed April 22 for Good Friday while State Court and Magistrate Court will close April 25.
