Art show to benefit Marietta museum

The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art will benefit from a Art and Design Show House opening May 7-22, 21 Whitlock Drive, Marietta. A 16-room house off Whitlock Avenue will show the work of Southern artists and 21 interior designers.

Lawrenceville authority to meet

The Lawrenceville Downtown Development Authority will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Old City Hall, 18 S. Clayton St., Lawrenceville.

The authority will discuss downtown master plan projects and get an update on city signage. The authority also will get a briefing from Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson. David Wickert

Forsyth County is staging a series of Earth Day events at Coal Mountain Park where residents can take tours of the Coal Mountain Recycling Convenience Center. The tours, hosted by Forsyth County Beautiful, are at 4 p.m. April 18, 3:30 p.m. April 19 and 4 p.m. April 21. A “Homeschool Special” at 10:30 a.m. April 20 offers students classes on water pollution. There will be day-long Earth Day events starting at 9 a.m. and running to 5 p.m. April 22. Robert Reid exhibit opens at Clark Atlanta

“Where on Earth: The Art of Robert Reid,” a collection of the renowned artist’s paintings, is being shown at Clark Atlanta University. The exhibition will run through April 29.

His work, mostly oil and watercolor paintings, is in the collections of the National Museum of African Art; the Smithsonian Institution, the Studio Museum in Harlem; and Musée et Galerie des Beaux Arts, Bordeaux, France. Admission to the exhibition in Trevor Arnett Hall is free and open Tuesday-Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ernie Suggs

DeKalb schools schedule orientation program

DeKalb County Schools will hold the 2011 Summer Bridge Program from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18-22 at Clarkston, Martin Luther King, Southwest DeKalb, Stone Mountain and Towers high schools.

The program provides rising ninth-graders a week of high school orientation, including building tours and lessons on study skills. The program is free.

Library offers two-week amnesty period

If you’ve got overdue books from any Clayton County library, here’s a chance to return them without penalty.

The library system begins a two-week amnesty for overdue books Saturday. The one-time amnesty allows people with overdue books and other materials to return them without having to pay late fees.

On April 19, the library system will begin working with Unique Management Services, a materials recovery and debt collection agency, to recover overdue materials, fines and fees. Tammy Joyner
