French consul general will honor 15 veterans
American Legion Post 160 will host a French Legion of Honor ceremony 2 p.m. Wednesday at the post.
Atlanta’s French consul general, Pascal Le Deunff, will conduct the ceremony, which will honor 15 local World War II veterans. Recipients will include American Legion Post 160 members Venson Abercrombie; Ralph Ardito; Leon Barnett; and Robert Spooner.

County recycling event will take place Saturday
Gwinnett County will sponsor a “9 /11 Days of Service” recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Rhodes Jordan Park, 100 E. Crogan St., Lawrenceville.
Volunteers will paint a mural and install landscaping at the community recreation center. Residents can bring electronics, tires and paper for recycling. Paper shredding is $5 per box. Electronics recycling is free, but there is a $10 charge for televisions. Tire recycling also is free, but there is a limit of eight per vehicle. - David Wickert
Milton tax bills can be paid online again
Milton has re-established its online payment system for 2011 tax bills.
Tax bills were mailed Thursday and are due Oct. 31, said Finance Director Stacey Inglis. Residents who wish to pay online may go to the city’s website, www.cityofmiltonga.us, then navigate to the online payment home page.
Taxpayers also may pay their bill by phone at 678-242-2500; in person at City Hall; or by mail, 13000 Deerfield Parkway Suite 107-G, Milton, GA 30004. Cash, check, money orders, certified checks or credit cards are accepted. - Patrick Fox
Collard Greens Festival scheduled for Saturday
The second Atlanta Collard Greens Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot and park of Shrine of the Black Madonna, 944 Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd.
The festival will feature entertainment, vendors, an African market place, health fair, a Collard Green King and Queen Cook-off, a vegetarian cooking demonstration, farmer’s market and more. Volunteer drummers and entertainers are encouraged to attend.
