Reiter steps down in Sandy Springs

Noah Reiter, assistant city manager for Sandy Springs, has announced his resignation effective Oct. 5.

Originally hired in 2008 to launch the city’s 911 center, Reiter also successfully structured a contract for ambulance services with Rural/Metro in his first year on the job.

He now oversees the city’s service contracts for information services, the Municipal Court and the nonemergency call center, and serves as acting city manager in the city manager’s absence.

Reiter said he will be relocating to the northeast to be closer to family.

Schools chief building her senior team

New DeKalb County School Superintendent Cheryl L.H. Atkinson wasted little time putting her senior level staff together.

Kathleen Howe, who had previously worked in the Kansas City Public School System, was named deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction;

Kendra D. March, a doctoral candidate at UNC-Charlotte and principal of Westerly Hills Academy, was named deputy superintendent of school leadership and operational support.

Gary Brantley, who served as chief information officer for the Lorain City Schools for four years, will assume that role in DeKalb.

Walter Woods, a vice president in the corporate division of Cohn & Wolfe public relations, has been named the district’s executive director of communications.

The people who previously held the positions are all under contract and have been reassigned throughout the district. Atkinson said more changes are coming.

“We will continue to make the changes necessary to ensure student success throughout the district,” Atkinson said.
