Powder Springs to display flood maps
Powder Springs will hold an open house concerning new floodplain maps today.
The community meeting will be 5-7 p.m. at the Ford Center, 4181 Atlanta St. behind the Powder Springs Library.
Representatives from the city and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be available to answer questions.

Schools’ nutrition program recognized
A Gwinnett County Schools nutrition program recently won federal recognition.
The Farm-to-School initiative, which provides healthy meals to students with produce from Georgia farmers, was lauded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Education.
Both agencies presented Gwinnett’s School Nutrition Program professionals with a “USDA Best Practice Award.”

Garden club gets grant for holiday project
The Roswell Garden Club received $200 in November from the Garden Club of Georgia’s Community On My Mind grant program to help fund its holiday project of decorating the Archibald Smith Plantation Home in Roswell. The Grant was established by The Garden Club of Georgia to support local garden club work. The funding for the grant program was made possible by a donation from the Georgia Power Foundation. Latino group chooses new officers
Last week, Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials’ Board of Directors elected a new chairman and added new board members.
The outgoing chairman, former State Senator Sam Zamarripa, nominated Former State Court Judge Tony Del Campo to serve as GALEO’s next Chairman. Sen. Zamarripa will be serving GALEO in an advisory role as Honorary Past Chairman. The new executive committee consists of Del Campo, Charles Kuck (vice chair), Sonny Poloche (treasurer) and Rocio Woody (secretary). Andria Simmons

Annual government report available
The 2011-12 Report to Stakeholders, an annual update of government activity in DeKalb County, is now available. Chief Executive Burrell Ellis compiled the report, which details local jobs and housing initiatives as well as updates to libraries and recreation centers. Henry commissioners to meet Friday
The Henry County Board of Commissioners has announced a special called meeting for 8:30 a.m. Friday at the County Administration Building. Posted agenda items include a discussion regarding fiber-optic implementation and opening discussions on the 2013 budget.
