Business group offers health screenings

Health screenings will be offered during the 11:45 a.m. Tuesday luncheon of the Austell Business Association. The group will meet on the first floor, City of Austell Threadmill Complex, 5000 Austell-Powder Springs Road, Austell.

Dr. Philicia Andrews of the Piedmont Physicians Group in Austell will give health advice along with the screenings.

Three places to cast votes early in Fulton

Early voting is underway in Fulton County for the July 31 primary election, which includes the 1-cent transportation sales tax referendum. It will also decide the races for Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, Solicitor General, Superior Court Clerk, and several Southside Legislative seats.

More events booked at Wolf Creek

Tickets are on sale for two more events at Wolf Creek Amphitheater — a jazz festival Aug. 4 and an R&B show Labor Day weekend.

Animal shelter design plans set in Forsyth

Plans for a new animal shelter for Forsyth County are moving forward. The Board of Commissioners approved a contract with RKS Green Consulting Group/ShelterPlanners.com for architectural design. The low bid was $181,250. Design work on the shelter is expected to take six months, following which construction would begin. Mark Woolsey for the AJC

Youth mission group to visit Sugar Hill

World Changers, a faith-based student mission group akin to Habitat for Humanity, is scheduled to help restore homes in Sugar Hill for five days beginning July 23.

In coordination with the city and its housing authority, an estimated 130 young adults are expected to help needy residents repair their homes.

Last year, 36 residents applied for help from the group, which worked on 10 homes, repairing roofs, building handicap ramps, shoring up decks, painting and cleaning yards.

Jehovah's Witnesses meet this month

More than 9,000 Jehovah's Witnesses will meet in Gwinnett during the three-day district convention. The convention, which begins on Friday, will be held at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Subsequent conventions bringing an equal of participants will be held July 20 through July 22; Aug. 17 through Aug. 19; and Aug. 24 through Aug. 26.

The theme will be "Safeguard Your Heart" and will highlight biblical references to the heart. The program will encourage self-scrutiny and reflection. The district includes North Georgia and parts of North and South Carolina. Admission is free. The district conventions are supported entirely by voluntary donations.
